Online Casino Pai Gow Poker Glossary
Playing pai gow poker at any casino can be hugely enjoyable. However, you will be much more successful at your gaming session if you understand most of what is going on! There are several unique terms and definitions connected to pai gow poker. We take a look at the more common ones:
Banker: The person who deals the cards, usually the house.
Copy: When the player’s hand and the banker’s hands tie. Ties (copies) are won by the banker.
Flush: A hand of five cards that share the same suit. The value of the cards is of no importance.
Full House: A hand that contains three cards that share the same value (eg. 3, 3, 3) and another two that share the same value (eg. 5, 5). The suit of the cards is of no importance in a full house.
Hand Behind: Also called ‘high hand’. The five card hand of cards in pai gow poker.
Hand in Front: Also called ‘low hand’. The two card hand of cards in pai gow poker.
High Card: The highest card that a player has been dealt. If the player or dealer hold the same combination of cards, the highest card is used to determine who wins that game.
House Way: A strategy used by casino bankers to set their own hands.
Pair: A hand that contains one set of pairs (eg. two tens). The suit of the pair is of no importance.
Royal Flush: A hand in pai gow poker that contains a ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. In this case, the suit of the cards is of importance.
Straight: Five cards in a hand that follow each other consecutively. For example: 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The suit of the cards is of no importance.
Straight Flush: Five cards in a hand that follow each other consecutively, of the same suit. For example: 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Three of a Kind: A hand of cards that contain three cards with the same value. The suit of the cards is of no importance.
Two Pair: Two pairs of cards with the same value, irrespective of the suit, in a hand of pai gow.
