Those who know even the basics of poker will be able to catch on to tequila poker quite quickly. There are hundreds of different variations of pure poker, but they all hold their roots in the original game.
In tequila poker, players have the option of playing two different games from just one hand. The options are to either bet on a poker hand or on the total number of points in any hand. This may sound a bit confusing, but with a bit of instruction and a bit of game time, anyone should be able to take to this game.
The first step is to make an ante wager. This is done while four cards are being dealt to each player face down. Players are then able to look at their own cards, but these cards have to remain private. There are three options to take from here. Players can decide between a high tequila bet, a tequila poker bet or to fold.
Players who make a high tequila bet then receive two more cards. The highest five cards are then counted and then tallied according to blackjack card values. A tally of over 46 points will allow the player to be paid out 1:1 for the ante bet.
Players who decide on the tequila poker bet are also dealt two more cards. The best five cards are used to make a regular five card poker hand. Two aces or more are paid out as 1:1 for the ante bet. Winning poker hands are paid according to the table set by the casino.
In general, these tables vary very little across the different casinos. Royal flushes are the best paid with 200:1. When deciding on a tequila poker bet, a player should fold unless the hand holds a pair or four cards in the same suit. With respect to the high tequila bet, a player should fold unless the three highest cards total 28 or more.
